Chinese autonomous vehicle developers are accelerating their European expansion through strategic alliances with regional mobility networks, fleet managers, and automotive manufacturers. Autonomous driving developer WeRide announced on August 3 a partnership with Danish electric transport provider GreenMobility to introduce commercial robotaxi operations in Denmark by the first half of 2027, pending official regulatory clearance. The service will deploy the WeRide GXR, an EU-certified Level 4 self-driving vehicle, marking WeRide’s entry into the Nordic region and its sixth European market. Testing and deployment will be carried out with Danish road and transport authorities. WeRide founder and CEO Tony Han said the partnership could serve as a scalable model for new international markets. In June, 18 EU member states signed a joint declaration of intent to establish large-scale cross-border test beds for autonomous vehicles, covering public transport, freight, and logistics. Baidu’s Apollo Go and European mobility platform Freenow by Lyft began testing sixth-generation RT6 autonomous vehicles in London on July 28, with safety operators on board in the London borough of Brent, planning public rides in 2027 subject to regulatory approval. Pony.ai announced in June it was preparing an autonomous mobility pilot in Luxembourg with Bolt and Stellantis, with Pony.ai providing technology, Bolt its ride-hailing experience, and Stellantis a midsize van supporting L4 autonomous driving.
