Volta, an AI cloud startup backed by Nvidia and Michael Dell’s family office, emerged from stealth mode with about $300 million raised across seed and Series A rounds, reaching a valuation of $2.4 billion. Andreessen Horowitz and Nvidia led the latest round. The company plans to open AI factories in Norway and elsewhere, targeting multiple gigawatts of capacity by 2030. Volta claims a $10 billion strategic partnership with an “AI lab,” identified elsewhere as Anthropic, which is said to seek access to Volta’s compute resources over a six-year period. The Register asked for confirmation; Anthropic declined to comment. Volta plans to develop the 133 MW facility with cryptocurrency miner and GPU cloud operator Bitdeer, using Nvidia Vera Rubin systems. The Norway site is the first project in Volta’s pipeline, which exceeds 1 GW of capacity across North America and Europe. Volta intends to use Nvidia’s DSX reference architecture and software tooling, including digital twins. Founder and CEO Ricard Boada said, “Compute has become a new infrastructure asset class,” and the company aims to build “The Utility of Compute.” Volta had not responded to requests for further information by time of publication.
