An NVIDIA spokesperson stated Huang is "meeting with bipartisan leadership to discuss NVIDIA's efforts to strengthen the U.S. supply chain through $500 billion in domestic tech production over the next four years, as well as U.S. leadership in AI, including open source." The specific topics discussed with Lutnick were not disclosed, but U.S. authorities are investigating potential regulatory violations regarding the export of NVIDIA's advanced Blackwell AI chips to China. The Trump administration's policy for government pre-deployment reviews of advanced AI models and strategies regarding open-source AI concerning China may also have been discussed. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent recently mentioned possible additional regulations on IP infringement by Chinese companies using open-source AI, warning via X that if Chinese firms carry out covert, large-scale "distillation" attacks amounting to IP theft, sanctions could be considered.
