Alibaba’s Qwen AI model, known domestically as Tongyi Qianwen, is being integrated into Apple Intelligence for Chinese users, providing on-device text comprehension, image understanding, and content generation across iOS, iPadOS, macOS, and visionOS. The collaboration began in February 2025, when Alibaba and Apple first partnered to address the need for a domestic technology partner due to regulatory requirements. By June 2025, Alibaba released Qwen3 models optimized for Apple’s MLX architecture, allowing the AI to run natively within Apple’s native interface. The announcement coincided with the same day China’s Cyberspace Administration filed regulatory approvals for generative AI services from multiple companies, including Huawei and OPPO. Alibaba first publicly released the Tongyi Qianwen model in September 2023 after obtaining necessary regulatory approvals. The integration involves no cryptocurrencies, blockchain tokens, or digital assets of any kind.
