Amodei said he does find others in AI "trustworthy," citing his relationship with Google DeepMind CEO Demis Hassabis. He expressed being at "peace" with the Anthropic-OpenAI rivalry, adding, "We'll see who wins in the market and we'll see who wins in the court of public opinion." Amodei's exit, which included his sister Daniela and nine OpenAI employees in 2020 to start Anthropic, has received renewed attention after Ronan Farrow's exposé in The New Yorker. Amodei attributed a viral moment when he and Altman declined to join industry leaders in unity to the "extreme disorganization" of the India AI summit, noting Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi "suddenly telling everyone to hold hands."
