Anthropic announced partial relief from US-imposed restrictions on its latest AI models, stating that the government greenlit limited access to Mythos 5 on Friday, while Fable 5 remains on ice. In a statement, Anthropic said it has been working closely with the US government since June 12 to restore access, and that Mythos 5, its strongest cybersecurity model, can now be redeployed to a set of US organizations that operate and defend critical infrastructure. The company is restoring access quickly and continuing to work with the government to expand access to Mythos 5 and make Fable 5 available for general use again. This partial reversal comes about two weeks after Anthropic disabled access to both models in response to a US export-control order barring access by foreign nationals, including foreign national employees inside Anthropic. Separately, OpenAI said on Friday that the US government requested it limit preview access for its GPT-5.6 series to a small group of trusted partners, adding that such government-imposed limits should not become the long-term default.
