The Citi Foundation launched its fourth Global Innovation Challenge, issuing a $25 million Request for Proposals (RFP) focused on equipping young people worldwide with skills, experiences and opportunities to thrive in an economy increasingly shaped by AI. Brandee McHale, Head of Community Investing and Development at Citi and President of the Citi Foundation, said fluency in AI is key to unlocking opportunities, ensuring young people gain skills for tomorrow's jobs. According to the World Economic Forum, approximately 66% of employers expect to hire talent with specialized AI skills, while more than 60% of employers cited increased demand for critical thinking, resilience and flexibility. The challenge will provide $500,000 to 50 community organizations helping low-income youth build AI and human-centric skills, connecting young people with job opportunities, strengthening youth employment programs by integrating AI tools, and fostering cross-sector partnerships. In Thailand, two nonprofit initiatives received funding: Center of Dreams, run by the Bangkok Community Help Foundation, which established the first temporary shelter for people experiencing homelessness in inner-city Bangkok and provides life-skills and vocational training; and A.I.R. (AI for Readiness and Resilience), run by Kenan Foundation Asia, which uses AI to develop a learning and career-planning platform.
