At the annual Allen & Co. Sun Valley Conference, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman said AI spend was a "very big topic" this year, with "everyone" asking how to reduce costs or increase value. Altman stated that people are starting to care about efficiency and return on investment. He noted that OpenAI's new GPT-5.6 family, released on Thursday, was developed with cost and speed in mind, and that the flagship Sol model is "54% more token efficient on agentic coding tasks." Altman said "every enterprise" is now thinking about "spend and the value they're getting in exchange for AI." The conference kicked off on Tuesday in Sun Valley, Idaho, with attendees including Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos, Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi, Apple CEO Tim Cook, and Amazon CEO Andy Jassy.
