ByteDance is shifting its Doubao AI assistant from consumer applications toward enterprise services and AI coding tools, mirroring the B2B strategy of Chinese rival Zhipu AI. According to multiple reports, ByteDance senior executives visited Anthropic and subsequently initiated an internal AI resource restructuring, reallocating resources from mass-market products like Doubao toward enterprise services and coding models. The company's AI data review team has expanded from approximately 1,500 to over 3,000 staff, tasked with cleaning data for coding models, and Volcano Engine's MaaS platform has been given a revenue target of 10x growth. Externally, Stack Overflow's 2025 developer survey found 84% of respondents use or plan to use AI tools in their development workflow, with 47.1% using them daily, and Gartner predicts 90% of enterprise software engineers will use AI code assistants by 2028. Internally, Doubao faces severe monetization challenges: despite over 200 million daily active users, it generates less than 1 million yuan in daily revenue, primarily from e-commerce commissions, while daily computing costs reach tens of millions of yuan.
