NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang Dismisses AI Bloodbath Fears, Says People Con…

NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang, speaking at Y Combinator's Startup School, dismissed fears of an AI-driven white-collar "bloodbath," arguing that people confuse "tasks" with "jobs." He said a task is one thing you do, while a job is a purpose you serve that holds dozens of tasks, and AI is good at swallowing tasks but has shown almost no ability to swallow jobs. Huang stated, "The narrative of AI destroying jobs is exactly backward," predicting every role will change and a fresh batch of roles will appear. His remarks countered Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei's prediction that AI could erase half of the white-collar entry level jobs. Huang cited customer service workers who take complaints and read answers from a database as likely to lose their jobs to automation, but noted radiology as a counterexample: machines read scans now, yet radiologist hiring kept rising anyway due to patient backlog, as hospitals must clear scans faster and admit people. Similarly, coders now spend less time writing code and more time directing tools like Codex and Claude Code. Huang has also previously urged AI firm leaders to stop scaring people with statements that look like they came out of science fiction.
