Mohalla Tech, parent company of ShareChat, Moj, and QuickTV, announced Tuesday it is committing ₹100 crore (approximately $10.5 million) to AI-powered micro-drama production. The bet hinges on closing a ten percentage point quality gap: AI-generated micro-dramas on QuickTV achieved an episode-20 completion rate of approximately 50 percent in recent releases, while live-action productions averaged roughly 60 percent. A micro-drama is a serialized story in vertically formatted episodes typically running under two minutes each, shot in 9:16 ratio, with each episode ending on a cliffhanger. The format originated in China around 2018 and reached $11 billion globally in 2025, according to Omdia. Mohalla Tech's platforms register 850 million daily video plays, representing more than 680 million minutes of daily viewing, serving approximately 70 million monthly active users. India's micro-drama segment generated $300 million in its first year, with 450 million downloads and 100 million monthly active users, per Lumikai's report, projected to reach $4.5 billion by 2030. QuickTV's release Main Amar Hoon, launched in June 2026, used a "pioneering hybrid production pipeline" combining live-action filmmaking, motion capture, advanced visual effects, and generative AI, where real actors' performances are rendered into AI-generated environments.
