Base44, a vibe coding company acquired by Wix.com Ltd. and led by Maor Shlomo, has announced the launch of its own large language model (LLM). In May alone, Base44 recorded annual recurring revenue (ARR) of about $150 million, compared with just several million when it was acquired. The new LLM aims to free Base44 from dependence on third parties and save costs, as it has previously relied on models like Cloud, ChatGPT, and Google. Shlomo stated that Base44’s traffic, users, and data allow it to train its own model for better quality, speed, effectiveness, and price. The company’s announcement says the model performs competitively against the models it replaces, with potential to overtake them as training continues. Shlomo noted that the US government recently decided to block foreign nationals from accessing Anthropic’s AI model, reinforcing the need to reduce dependency, though work on the model began several months earlier. In the long run, Shlomo hopes the model will help users make product decisions by identifying patterns in successful apps built on Base.
