The Australian Bureau of Statistics reported that about 82% of local businesses said artificial intelligence had no impact on job vacancies in August, according to Head of Labour Statistics Sean Crick, who said "about 82% of businesses reported that AI did not impact the level of job vacancies in August 2026." The data showed four per cent of businesses reported reduced job vacancies due to artificial intelligence, while less than one per cent noted an increase. Information media and telecommunications recorded the highest proportion of businesses reporting decreased vacancies at 16%, followed by wholesale trade at 8%. Conversely, electricity, gas, water and waste services led sectors expecting or experiencing increased vacancies due to artificial intelligence at 10%. The release follows the integration of new survey questions designed to measure current technology adoption against historical employment metrics.
