Hyderabad Cyber Crime Police filed two separate First Information Reports (FIRs) against Arun Srinivas, Meta India’s country head, and operators of several Instagram and Facebook accounts, following complaints from two BJP supporters about objectionable content regarding the Prime Minister shared during a recent Cockroach Janta Party (CJP)-led protest. The FIRs, filed on July 29, cite Sections 66C and 67 of the Information Technology Act, and Sections 353(2) and 336(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. T Saikiran Goud, 32, a Telangana BJP social media committee member, reported seeing about 20 Instagram reels and Facebook posts with allegedly altered images and negative content, which he said threatened sovereignty, integrity, and public order. S Aravind Reddy, 29, a BJP supporter, reported digitally altered and AI-generated videos showing the PM with US President Donald Trump and former Union minister Dharmendra Pradhan in an "obscene, derogatory and misleading manner." Both complainants requested police action against Meta for allowing the content. By Thursday evening, all reported links were inactive, but the investigation into content origin, spread, and Meta’s safeguards continues. Arun Srinivas, who became Meta’s Managing Director and Country Head for India in July 2025, is named as a co-accused.
