Tony Chatman, a keynote speaker and organizational consultant, addressed the human resistance derailing AI initiatives, particularly in Latin America. Speaking at the IA2Latam executive forum in Panama, he was subsequently invited to keynote the Bench Club HR Summit in Panama City on June 10, focusing on AI's implications for the future of work. Chatman argues that while organizations focus on platforms and budgets, the critical question is why people use AI at the most basic level. He notes that AI is being adopted faster than any technology in history, surpassing the internet, personal computer, and cell phone. Yet, he states that 85% of employees who use AI are using it solely as a search replacement or for basic summaries. Chatman attributes this to resistance, which manifests as minimal engagement rather than defiance. He identifies three deeper fears driving this behavior: the fear of looking incompetent, the fear of being replaced, and the fear of losing control.
