Sheng Ying, former head of the inference team at xAI and initiator of the open-source inference engine SGLang, has spun out the startup RadixArk from the SGLang ecosystem. RadixArk completed a $100 million seed round at its inception, with investors covering almost all computing power giants and tech leaders in Silicon Valley. Sheng Ying graduated from the ACM Honors Program at Shanghai Jiao Tong University, later earning a master's degree at Columbia University and a doctorate at Stanford University. Her research spans algorithms, formal verification, and large model systems. As a core member of the LMSYS open-source community, she promoted influential projects before joining xAI to co-lead Grok's inference team. RadixArk aims to turn cutting-edge AI infrastructure, previously accessible only to a few tech giants, into an open technology base for the entire industry. In an interview, Sheng Ying said she cares not about "making impact" but whether the things she thinks are right have finally happened. Her new office, moved into on June 1st, now has more than 40 people, with expansion growing faster than expected.
