Generation Z, generally defined as those born between 1997 and 2012, uses artificial intelligence more actively than other generations and is more likely to turn to it to discuss personal problems, according to research by Kaspersky's internal market research centre based on a survey of 7,200 respondents across 18 countries. Almost half of Gen Z respondents (47%) use these tools every day or almost every day, the highest proportion among all demographic groups surveyed, mainly for searching for information (56%), studying (49%), generating ideas (47%) and working (39%). However, 28% use AI to discuss issues they would rather not share with other people, and 27% say they interact with AI as if it were a friend, a higher proportion than among other generations. Kaspersky says the findings reflect a change in people's relationship with AI, evolving from a tool for specific tasks into a resource for conversation, emotional support and companionship, while warning that such interactions can feel private and supportive even though AI remains a technological tool capable of providing inaccurate or inappropriate answers, and may encourage users to disclose sensitive information more freely. Despite intensive use and confidence, only 42% consistently take protective measures when interacting with AI services, 52% do so only occasionally, and 6% admit to taking no precautions at all.
