Jensen Huang spent July 15 and 16 in Tokyo, securing deals for a national AI factory, partnerships with Japan's major robotics companies, and agreements with chip-material suppliers for Nvidia's next-generation chips. Three specific projects anchor this push. First, Noetra, a coalition of roughly 44 domestic companies including SoftBank, Sony, NEC, and Honda, aims to develop homegrown "physical AI" foundation models, backed by up to 1 trillion yen, or about $6.2 billion, over five years. Nvidia is building a "Vera Rubin AI factory" with 13,750 Vera CPUs and 27,500 Rubin GPUs, delivering 140 megawatts of compute, expected to launch in 2028. Noetra's roadmap includes a reasoning model starting in fiscal 2026, an omni-modal version by 2028, and a "Real-world Native AI" for robots targeted for 2030. Second, Fanuc, Yaskawa, Kawasaki Heavy, Fujitsu, Hitachi, NEC, Sony, SoftBank, Kubota, and robotics group AIRoA have signed on to build using Nvidia's Cosmos models, with Nvidia unveiling Cosmos 3 Edge in Tokyo for its Jetson Thor chips. Huang's message was that AI's next chapter is happening on factory floors, in robots, and in physical machines.
