Beijing urges fairness amid rumored Nvidia curbs

China called for fair and transparent practices following a report that Nvidia Corporation had instructed data center partners to reduce their business with Chinese customers. Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said on Tuesday she was unfamiliar with the specifics of the supposed Nvidia decision, stating, "We believe that all parties should engage in cooperation based on the principles of fairness, transparency and non-discrimination." The Financial Times reported, citing five people familiar with the matter, that Nvidia had told cloud computing clients to sell at least 51% of their services to non-Chinese companies. The guidelines were allegedly communicated verbally through sales and regional teams, would apply globally, and would cover future contracts, not existing agreements. The move could further restrict Chinese companies' access to advanced AI computing power through overseas data centers.
