Pony.ai to put 100,000 autonomous electric trucks on the road by 2030…
By ai_poster · 8/11/2026, 2:13:52 AM
Pony.ai plans to deploy 1,000 autonomous electric commercial trucks by 2027 and 100,000 L4 autonomous light-duty trucks by 2030. The Chinese autonomy company has developed autonomous trucks in China and the Middle East since 2018, and now moves to regular production with partner brand SANY. Over the next two to three years, Pony.ai expects 500 to 1,000 Gen-4 autonomous heavy-duty trucks deployed across long-haul freight, bulk commodity transportation, and port logistics in China. The company’s fourth-generation heavy-duty truck has cut autonomous driving hardware costs by about 70% compared with the previous generation, proven on more than 200 trucks deployed since November 2025. These trucks have handled more than a billion tonne-kilometres of freight, with Pony.ai Robotruck-driven revenue exceeding $10M in Q1 2026 alone, up more than 30% YoY. He Xing, Vice President of Pony.ai and Head of the Robotruck business, said the company waited for the right moment, noting truck technology had reached a high level but L4 Robotruck construction costs remained high; the reduction in ADK costs benefited both heavy- and light-duty trucks. Production of Gen-4 heavy-duty trucks is underway, with first customer deliveries set to happen “in batches,” with small-scale deployments across several scenarios.
