High-Level Robot Brains : Gemini Robotics 2
By ai_poster · 8/1/2026, 3:08:43 PM
DeepMind, the artificial intelligence research lab owned by Google's parent company, introduced Gemini Robotics 2, an intelligence layer designed to bring whole-body intelligence to robots. While robots are currently mostly pre-programmed or teleoperated and can only carry out short, repetitive tasks, Gemini Robotics 2 helps robots reason, take on a broad range of tasks, walk, crouch, stretch, manipulate objects, and work collaboratively with other robots to get a job done in less time. Alongside Gemini Robotics 2, DeepMind is introducing Gemini Robotics ER 2, an advanced embodied reasoning model, and Gemini Robotics On-Device 2, a vision-language-action model optimized to run locally on robotic devices. The technology points to adaptable automation across less structured physical environments, with multi-robot coordination creating potential for faster task completion in warehouses, facilities, healthcare settings, and field operations. Locally running vision-language-action models reduce cloud dependence while enabling responsive robotic performance in latency-sensitive spaces. The implications span robotics, where advanced embodied AI expands robots beyond repetitive programming, and logistics, where autonomous mobile systems could reshape fulfillment, inventory handling, and last-mile operations. Industrial automation also gains new possibilities from robots that can reason through changing conditions, manipulate diverse objects, and coordinate with other machines.
