Microsoft is retiring Outlook's Meeting Insights feature and replacing it with Microsoft 365 Copilot in early September 2026. Meeting Insights, an AI-powered feature debuted in 2020, uses machine learning to surface files, emails, and other content relevant to an upcoming meeting, displaying them directly in the meeting invite UI. Many users disliked the feature because it made files appear as if they had been attached and sent to all meeting invitees, causing panic over potential leaks of sensitive documents. The feature is turned on by default in all Outlook products. Microsoft says Copilot can provide better insights by understanding context and offering a "more intelligent" experience, summarizing relevant content and tasks before a meeting. After September 2026, Meeting Insights containing relevant files and emails will no longer appear, and users will see a new "Prepare for the meeting" experience that can generate a Copilot summary.
