Autonomous greening powered by artificial intelligence and robotics is emerging as a new solution to restore ecosystems and combat desertification, often combined with edge computing and mechanised platforms. Bahrain could deploy autonomous vehicle clusters running on off-grid photovoltaic arrays to halt desert expansion in hyper arid regions. These AI-driven vehicles can evaluate terrain, drill seed holes, plant saplings, water roots, and compact soil in synchronised processes over 5 to 10 second intervals, while heavy-lift agricultural drones drop seedling bundles across sand dunes to keep ground vehicles supplied without fossil fuel trucks. China is deploying solar-powered autonomous robots in Inner Mongolia and the Gobi Desert to plant trees at a rate of one tree every five seconds. AI-driven greening helps nations reduce operating costs by approximately 30 per cent compared to traditional afforestation, while robotics increase productivity by 10 per cent over conventional crews. AI-guided systems ensure precision depth control and immediate root hydration, raising plant survival rates by 80 per cent. The global autonomous greening and robotics market was valued at $613 million in 2025 and is projected to reach $2,832 million by 2034, expanding at a compound annual growth rate of 18.5% during the forecast period. Bahrain is urged to leverage this trend to stem desertification and accelerate greening.
