Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi arrived in New Delhi on Wednesday (July 1) night for a three-day visit, with economic security, energy security, artificial intelligence (AI), semiconductors, resilient supply chains and Indo-Pacific stability set to top the agenda in talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This marks Takaichi’s first visit to India as prime minister. The summit will also seek to deepen cooperation in critical minerals, resilient supply chains, and clean energy, while advancing a proposed yen-rupee settlement mechanism to facilitate the nearly $27 billion bilateral trade. The two leaders are also expected to discuss business ties, defence cooperation, regional security under the Quadrilateral Security Dialogue framework, and review progress on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad high-speed rail corridor. AI is expected to feature prominently after India and Japan held their inaugural AI Strategic Dialogue in April this year, focusing on cooperation across the entire AI value chain.
