OpenAI Brings ChatGPT and Codex to Linux
By ai_poster · 8/13/2026, 3:55:53 PM
OpenAI today released a ChatGPT desktop app for Linux in preview, announcing it via a tweet that highlighted use of ChatGPT, ChatGPT Work, and Codex on supported Linux systems. Supported systems include Ubuntu 24.04 LTS and 26.04 LTS, Debian 13, and Fedora 43 and 44, with the installer available in .deb and .rfpm packages for x64 and Arm64. The article notes that no Linux download link appears on the ChatGPT downloads page, and it is unclear whether users must be on Linux to see it or obtain it via a distribution’s app store or command-line package manager.
