On Tuesday, Minister of Education, Science, Culture, and Sports Zhanna Andreasyan and a delegation from OpenAI discussed the implementation of the ChatGPT Edu platform in the Armenian education system. Andreasyan stated the platform could be an effective tool for higher and general education, emphasizing the need for a comprehensive policy including regulatory issues, risk management, and safe use principles. She noted that a new bachelor's degree program in artificial intelligence will launch at Yerevan State University in September 2026. OpenAI's Partnerships Representative Alina Leon highlighted collaboration on safe AI use and skill development. With the new academic year, Armenia's educational, engineering, and research communities will receive approximately 50,000 free subscriptions as part of a collaboration between the ministry, OpenAI, and Firebird. During the initial phase in the 2026–2027 academic year, access to ChatGPT Edu will be funded by Firebird, with government funding considered after an effectiveness assessment.
