AI deep research tools, featured on major platforms like Anthropic, OpenAI, and Google, are designed for complex topics that a quick search cannot resolve. These tools read dozens of sources, cross-reference information, and write a detailed analysis instead of a brief reply. The process breaks a complex prompt into sequential tasks, initiates multiple web searches, judges site credibility, and verifies statistics across independent pages before compiling an organized report. Anthropic’s Research feature in Claude runs autonomously for several minutes, while OpenAI’s ChatGPT Deep Research and Google’s Gemini Deep Research use a similar multi-step approach. Access depends on subscription tier: OpenAI and Anthropic require paid plans, with Claude limiting Research to Pro, Max, Team, and Enterprise users; Google offers Deep Research on its free Gemini tier, with the paid Gemini Advanced tier unlocking a larger model and higher daily limits; xAI limits DeepSearch to paid SuperGrok subscribers. Users should treat outputs as a draft, as the software cannot independently verify false numbers from outside sources. Standard instant answers remain faster for simple lookups, while deep research modes prove valuable for comparing multiple products or organizing fragmented data.
