Andrej Karpathy has developed an AI agent called Dobby that is designed to perform various digital and household tasks through simple commands, potentially reducing the need to open separate mobile apps for different tasks. According to Karpathy, Dobby can control connected systems in his home, including music, lights and security systems, without the user opening a separate app for every task; instead, the user tells the AI agent the desired task and Dobby accesses the relevant device and performs it. The system can scan the local network to identify connected devices, establish communication with them through available methods and follow the given instructions. Normally, separate apps are used for home lights, music systems and security devices, but Dobby attempts to change this by letting users talk to a single AI agent to get multiple tasks done. Karpathy says that in the future people may give instructions to AI agents through conversation instead of searching through traditional app interfaces. Dobby is currently in its early stages and requires technical knowledge to set up and use, but the concept points toward autonomous AI agents that understand users’ instructions and independently perform different digital tasks; if widespread, users may simply state their need and the AI agent will complete the relevant task itself.
