A missing elderly man from Punjab, Chaman Lal, reached Gaya after losing his way during a pilgrimage, where a local resident spent days tracing his village before accompanying him back home. Chaman Lal, from Fatehgarh Gujran in Ludhiana district, had gone to Amritsar on September 11 to visit Sri Harmandir Sahib under the Punjab government’s Chief Minister Pilgrimage Scheme. His family said he had been experiencing memory-related problems. He became separated from his group, boarded a train travelling towards Bihar and eventually arrived in Gaya, more than 1,200 kilometres from his home. Gaya resident Neeraj took him home, provided food and a place to stay, and began investigating the village name online using regular internet searches as well as ChatGPT. The search continued for around three days before Neeraj located Fatehgarh Gujran near Machhiwara Sahib in Ludhiana district. Neeraj travelled with him from Gaya to Ludhiana and then towards Machhiwara, where Master Krishan Lal recognised the elderly man. His grandson, Sukhchain Singh, travelled to Machhiwara and confirmed the man was his grandfather. According to Sukhchain Singh, the family had been looking for Chaman Lal since he disappeared in Amritsar.
