On November 11, 2025, Russia's first AI humanoid robot, AIdol, collapsed seconds into its public debut at Moscow's Yarovit Hall Congress Center. Two staffers walked the 186-centimeter robot onto the stage to the Rocky theme before it buckled at the knees and went down hard; staff draped it in black cloth and removed it. Vladimir Vitukhin, who leads Idol, told Newsweek the fall came down to calibration, saying AIdol's stereo cameras were likely overwhelmed by the hall's lighting, throwing off the balance and motion-control algorithms. "I hope that this mistake will turn into an experience," he said. The robot weighs 95 kilograms, runs on 67 degrees of freedom, and carries 19 facial servomotors under silicone skin built to replicate more than a dozen base emotions and hundreds of micro-expressions. Seven microphones build a 3D sound map, and it is rated to walk at up to 6 km/h while carrying loads up to 10 kilograms. Idol says the unit shown in Moscow is 77% Russian-made, with a stated target of 93% domestic components.
