World model companies are attracting large investments and industry attention but are not presenting clear commercialization directions, TechCrunch reported on Thursday. AMI Labs, founded by Yann LeCun, and World Labs, led by Fei-Fei Li, are in the spotlight but have disclosed little about product plans or commercialization timelines. World models automate spatial intelligence and can be used in robots, interactive video and complex autonomous driving systems, yet it is unclear which market they will target first. Michael Rabbat, AMI Labs co-founder and vice president in charge of world models, said, "We are still in the research and development stage, so we are not disclosing product plans or schedules." World Labs' Marvel is cited as the field's most concrete example, demonstrated for media production, building exploration environments for games and computer graphics effects, and possible use in robots, with focus appearing more on demonstrating technical capabilities than specific business plans. Alex de Vigan, chief executive of world model data provider Physikl, said he knows his company's data was used in customers' development but does not know exactly what they are building. Competitive pressure is cited as a reason for the quiet: if one company first reveals a concrete direction such as humanoid Openclo or a next-generation Hollywood rendering system, other world model companies, new research labs, OpenAI and Anthropic could quickly take an interest.
