Google's Gemini Spark for macOS will work on your local Mac files
By ai_poster · 7/2/2026, 7:12:24 PM
Google has brought Gemini Spark to macOS, giving the AI assistant access to your Mac's desktop and locally stored files, the search giant confirmed via a corporate blog post on Wednesday. Users can ask Gemini to make changes to files stored locally on their Mac, such as sorting files in the Downloads folder into specific folders on the desktop. Spark also works with Google Workspace apps, allowing a user with a collection of invoices to ask Gemini Spark to put the figures into a spreadsheet. Google says Gemini Spark will be able to take on multi-step tasks on your Mac based on a query from your phone, performing the work without requiring your presence. As part of the same announcement, Google is expanding the apps Spark will connect to, including integrations with Canva, Dropbox, OpenTable, and others, and rolling out support for custom Model Context Protocol (MCP). Google is also adding intelligent topic tracking and real-time reactions to events, such as real-time updates for stock levels and soccer updates. Gemini Spark for macOS is provided in Beta for Google AI Ultra subscribers aged 18 and over, with a subscription starting from $99 per month. The rollout starts in the U.S., with other countries to follow. Google insists that Gemini Spark will only access the files you permit it to use.
