Amazon's AI demand still outstrips supply, says CEO Andy Jassy; free …

Amazon CEO Andy Jassy said the company continues to face more demand for artificial intelligence services than it can currently supply, despite investing heavily in data centres. Speaking to CNBC-TV18, Jassy stated that Amazon Web Services (AWS) is adding capacity at a rapid pace, but "we still don't have enough supply for all the demand." He noted that "as fast as we're adding that capacity, it is being monetised." Jassy suggested AI resembles cloud computing's early years, requiring substantial upfront investments before cash generation normalises, and that free cash flow will eventually return to normal levels as upfront spending moderates, though he did not provide a timeline. AWS grew 28% year-on-year on a revenue run rate of roughly $150 billion, with Jassy adding, "We're still dropping demand on the floor." He stressed that lowering the cost of AI is critical to broader adoption, saying, "The only way that you'll see AI rolled out as expansively as I believe is if the cost of inference continues to come down." Amazon is investing in its own custom AI chips and cloud services to reduce inference costs.
