A tech advice journalist reports that many people want to avoid AI features in their apps and operating systems, but it is not always clear how to turn these features off. To suppress AI answers in Google searches, users can add “-ai” to their queries. For a permanent solution in Chrome for desktop, users can go to Settings > Search Engines > Manage search engines and site search, hit the “Add” button next to “Site search,” enter “Google No AI” in the Name field and “gnai” in the Shortcut field, and use the URL https://www.google.com/search?q=%s$20-ai. Then, hit the ⋮ vertical ellipses next to the new entry and select “Make default.”
