AI safety researcher Cereblab reported that Grok Build, SpaceXAI's CLI, transmitted entire repositories and their Git histories to a Google Cloud Storage bucket, even when instructed not to open files, including a user's entire directory with SSH keys and password manager databases. After Cereblab's report, other users reported similar results. SpaceXAI set `disable_codebase_upload` to "true," and Cereblab confirmed the uploads stopped. Elon Musk promised all previously uploaded user data will be deleted. SpaceXAI stated that Grok Build respects zero data retention (ZDR) and that the `/privacy` command disables data retention and deletes previously synced data.
