Investor Ross Gerber of Gerber Kawasaki suggested on X on Saturday that Elon Musk-led SpaceX should create a Starlink-enabled smartphone with “no apps” that “just does what you tell it to do.” Gerber said he did not see a need for an OpenAI “smart speaker,” calling the move an “obvious miss” by the Sam Altman-led company. He described the proposed phone as having a “3 day battery life,” the ability to connect “anywhere in the world,” and a “fixed rate cost.” In a separate post, Gerber agreed with a user who urged Musk to create a Starlink smartphone, saying, “Many would buy one just as a back up… I have two starlink systems.” SpaceX shares were up 3.07% to $137.19 during pre-market trading on Monday, rebounding to above the IPO price of $135/share. Separately, Musk recently touted “billions” of connected cars via Starlink after a cybercab was spotted testing in Dallas, Texas, with a Starlink dish. Tesla Inc. recently said it had run out of funds allocated through Gov. Gavin Newsom’s MyFirstEV rebate program, which offers a $3,500 discount on new EVs and a $1,750 discount on used ones.
