An elderly man from Punjab, Chaman Lal of Fatehgarh Gujran village in Ludhiana district, became separated from his group during a September 11 pilgrimage to Sri Harmandir Sahib in Amritsar under the Punjab government's Chief Minister Pilgrimage Scheme. His family says he has long struggled with memory-related issues. He boarded a train to Bihar and travelled more than 1,200 kilometres to Gaya, where a local named Neeraj found him distressed and hungry; the only detail he could give was his village name. Neeraj sheltered him for the next four days, then used ChatGPT and internet searches, taking three days to trace Fatehgarh Gujran near Machhiwara Sahib in Ludhiana district. Neeraj accompanied him from Gaya to Ludhiana and onward to Machhiwara, where Master Krishan Lal identified him. His grandson, Sukhchain Singh, confirmed the identification; the family had searched Amritsar and alerted police, and relatives had shared his photograph on social media. The family welcomed Neeraj with garlands and offered him money and clothes. Neeraj, who works in the construction sector in Gaya, said he felt personally responsible for finding the family.
