All models have an LED that lights up white while the camera is recording. From the second generation onwards, the camera is disabled if the LED is covered. The glasses also disable the camera if LED modification or destruction is detected. Meta is removing ads and suspending listings from vendors promoting illegal modifications. Regarding shutter sounds, Meta stated that AI glasses emit a shutter sound audible to the wearer, but making it audible from a distance is not practical, noting the LED mechanism is familiar from devices like laptop webcams.
