Ultra-small startups, composed of one to ten people, are emerging in South Korea due to AI agents replacing human labor, according to an industry report on August 4. EndoHealth, a healthcare startup established in 2024, has four employees and reported monthly sales approaching 300 million Korean won, securing investments from U.S. venture capitals Andreessen Horowitz and General Catalyst. XLR, a one-person airline simulation game company, generates monthly sales of 50 million to 70 million Korean won and was selected for a16z's acceleration program 'Speedrun'. These startups lower fixed costs and accelerate decision-making. Motif Technologies, with around 30 employees, developed a large-scale language model with 314 billion parameters and secured a Series B investment of 24 billion Korean won on May 24. Dalpa has cumulatively attracted 13.3 billion Korean won. In Silicon Valley, the AI boom has created ultra-small teams and one-person companies, with a website called the 'Ultra-Small Team Hall of Fame' gaining attention. The local VC industry is shifting from large-scale funding to investing in ultra-small teams with high sales and profits. However, concerns are growing that AI-enabled startups may reduce demand for external investment.
