Bangladesh must overhaul its education system to prepare its workforce for the AI era, according to Md Salauddin, Director of Reaz Garments Ltd. The global labor market is undergoing significant transformation driven by artificial intelligence, automation, climate change, geopolitical shifts, and demographic changes. According to the World Economic Forum’s Future of Jobs research, the period between 2025 and 2030 will witness major structural changes in employment, with millions of new jobs created while many existing roles disappear. The future workforce will be defined by adaptability, continuous learning, creativity, and practical skills rather than academic qualifications alone. Employers are prioritizing analytical thinking, problem-solving, creativity, leadership, communication, and adaptability. Artificial intelligence, big data, cloud computing, cybersecurity, machine learning operations (MLOps), and digital engineering are among the fastest-growing skill areas. Bangladesh’s strength is its young population, with thousands participating in the global digital economy through freelancing and remote work. However, a significant portion of the digital workforce is concentrated in lower-value, repetitive tasks such as basic content creation, simple graphic design, and data entry, which are increasingly automated by generative AI tools. Workers must upgrade toward higher-value skills including AI applications, software engineering, cybersecurity, cloud solutions, data analytics, user experience design, and digital business.
