The AI Frontier isn’t a destination, it’s a decision
By ai_poster · 7/30/2026, 4:25:10 PM
A 30 July 2026 article by Jed Griffiths, Chief Digital Officer of Microsoft UK, states that organisations pulling ahead with AI are shifting from adding AI to existing work to redesigning how the entire organisation operates. Microsoft’s Work Trend Index calls these organisations Frontier Firms: organisations built around on-demand intelligence, human-and-agent teams, and work organised around outcomes rather than hierarchies. The article cites examples including Pets at Home using agents built in Copilot Studio to reshape risk detection, Iceland building Genie as an operational layer, and Recordsure rewriting compliance review economics. Griffiths presents a framework of Strategy, Platform, and Culture for moving from pilots to transformation. Strategy means identifying where reinvention will have the greatest impact, with a Frontier strategy being ‘AI where it delivers the most economic value’. Platform involves two lanes: the Fast Lane for building AI fluency with Copilot and low-code agents, and the Deep Lane for re-engineering core processes around intellectual property and strengthening data foundations.
