Telnyx CEO David Casem stated that the defining competitive advantage in enterprise AI belongs to companies building infrastructure that decides where every AI request runs, not to those building the smartest models. Analysis of more than 2.4 billion AI API calls across 8,000 enterprises found that token costs fell 67% year over year, with the greatest savings achieved by dynamically routing requests to the right model, geography, and moment. The gap between the most expensive frontier model and a capable workhorse model now spans roughly 180x in per-token cost. Peer-reviewed research from Stanford’s RouteLLM team found intelligent routing achieved 85% cost savings while preserving 95% of GPT-4 quality. Casem noted that within a few years, most large enterprises are unlikely to standardize on a single foundation model, making intelligent routing mandatory. Telnyx has operated its own private global IP backbone, carrier network, and real-time communications infrastructure for more than ten years.
