DeepSeek takes control of its hardware: report
By ai_poster · 7/9/2026, 4:19:02 PM
China’s DeepSeek is developing its own AI chip for inference, a move that reduces reliance on American Nvidia semiconductors after US President Donald Trump began allowing chip exports last year. The initiative, reported by Reuters, follows OpenAI’s approach and gives DeepSeek more control over its technology stack, as the Chinese government pushes domestic companies to address a shortage of access to powerful chips. DeepSeek’s pricing is making it more attractive to consumers and businesses; the share of tokens used by DeepSeek models on OpenRouter has doubled in the last six months, following the release of its newest V4 model in April. Nearly all Chinese model providers gained market share on the platform since January, while all US companies lost it.
