Chinese EV maker XPeng predicts the automotive market will consolidate, arguing future winners must be AI companies as well as manufacturers. Vice chairman Brian Wu said, "You need to be an AI company as well as an advanced manufacturer." XPeng identified Tesla as its closest benchmark, with international development boss Alex Tang stating, "We really don't think BYD is our competitor," citing different positioning, products, and customers. XPeng pitches itself as a premium technology brand, noting many buyers switch from Tesla or BMW, Mercedes-Benz and Audi. Its AI ecosystem includes humanoid robots, autonomous robotaxis, and a flying car division with over 7000 pre-orders in China. Subject to local regulations, XPeng plans to introduce autonomous driving technology in Australia before the end of 2027, and Australia could be among the first international markets for its commercial humanoid robot.
