The chiefs of Samsung Electronics, SK and Naver will meet Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang in the United States this week. Industry officials said on July 22 that Samsung Electronics Chairman Lee Jae-yong, SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won and Naver Chairman Lee Hae-jin will meet Huang in a roundtable format near Silicon Valley this week, with July 24 seen as the most likely date. The possibility that OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei will join has also been mentioned. For Samsung Electronics and SK hynix, the core issue is their high-bandwidth memory supply relationship with Nvidia. The two companies decided to put HBM4 into Nvidia's next-generation AI accelerator "Vera Rubin" due in the second half. They are also supplying memory for OpenAI's in-house AI chip under preparation and reached an agreement last year to supply high-performance memory for the AI infrastructure project "Stargate," worth hundreds of trillions of won. Samsung Electronics is also taking charge of foundry production for the inference language processing unit "Grok 3" to be used on the Nvidia platform and discussing contract manufacturing of AI chips using a 2-nanometre process with Anthropic. Naver is expected to put forward a cooperation plan linked to building an "AI factory." Business circles see the meeting as pushing back against recent concerns about a semiconductor peak-out.
