Electric Dreama Studios, a small London-based creative practice specialising in VFX and digital tools including AI, is presenting an "AI slop monster" at the British Art Fair at the Saatchi Gallery. Led by creative director Sam Nutt, the studio created CH(AI)MERA, a modern-day chimera described as a grotesque amalgamation of AI slop as body parts, with poreless skin that looks like it's melting and uncanny eyes. Inspired by the chimera from Greek mythology, the creature symbolised chaos and destruction. The studio says the sculpture is a vow, built as the "ugliest version of AI slop" it could as a reminder of what art NOT to make, with everything it makes from now a commitment to AI used only as a tool in service of human ideas. Sam Nutt said the studio created the piece to hold itself accountable and remind its studio and clients that it will never make this kind of slop, promising only human-first work where technology serves the craft instead of replacing it. CH(AI)MERA will be on public display at the British Art Fair, Saatchi Gallery, London, from 24 to 27 September.
