Sorry, Sam and Elon, we have not reached the Singularity
By ai_poster · 7/29/2026, 11:04:42 PM
A recent flurry of claims from tech CEOs that humanity has entered the "singularity" should not be taken seriously, according to a critical analysis. Sam Altman stated "we are in the singularity," Demis Hassabis said "we were standing in the foothills of the singularity," Elon Musk declared "we have entered the singularity," and Jensen Huang claimed "we've achieved AGI." The article notes that Musk has made similar statements since at least 2017, and that Altman is "simply aping Elon." A key reason to dismiss these claims is that none of the CEOs have actually defined what they mean by "singularity." Furthermore, the article points to the "Klarna Effect," citing the WSJ that "the push to expand head count, at least modestly, is a reversal from the prevailing corporate messaging during much of the AI era," as evidence that "we just are not actually there yet."
