The whirlwind 72 hours of rival AI announcements
By ai_poster · 7/11/2026, 4:03:16 PM
In the last three days, leading AI labs released a nonstop parade of new products, features, and frontier models, including names like "Sol" and "Terra." OpenAI debuted GPT-Live, a new voice model, and the GPT-5.6 family of models, which includes the flagship frontier model Sol, the everyday Terra, and the cost-saving Luna. OpenAI also integrated Codex into the ChatGPT desktop app, announced ChatGPT Work, and sunsetted its Atlas browser. Major personnel changes occurred: OpenAI's chief futurist left after nine years, and CEO of applications Fidji Simo stepped down after medical leave. Meta debuted a new image-generation model, Muse Image, and released Muse Spark 1.1, its first charged model with a "very low price." SpaceXAI released Grok 4.5, described as an "Opus-class model," its first since acquiring Cursor. Anthropic released a new "Reflect" feature for user habit summaries. Perplexity is quietly working on a new coding tool called "Teammate," Business Insider exclusively reported.
