OpenAI paused training for Astra, one of its upcoming models, after internal evaluations over the past few days indicated significant advancements in agentic coding and cybersecurity. The company concluded last night that it cannot rule out critical cyber capabilities under its Preparedness Framework, which requires halting development until appropriate security controls are in place. OpenAI also confirmed that Astra is not the same model that hacked Hugging Face.
