Phoebe Gates, the 23-year-old youngest daughter of Bill Gates and Melinda French Gates, wants her AI shopping company Phia to succeed with "no ties to my privilege or my last name," stating "I have a chip on my shoulder." Phia, which has raised more than $43 million and is valued at around $185 million, is an AI shopping assistant cofounded with her Stanford roommate Sophia Kianni. The browser extension compares prices across tens of thousands of retail and resale sites. Bloomberg reported this week that Phia’s extension had allegedly been engaging in "cookie stuffing," silently opening a background tab during checkout to override legitimate referrals. A Phia spokesperson told Bloomberg a recent code release "was causing misattributions from a subset of users" and said the issue had been fixed; Bloomberg retested and found it had stopped. Phoebe Gates’ comments came during the resurfacing of her father’s connections to Jeffrey Epstein, though she did not comment about the allegations.
